Paper Magazine Photoshoot
Paper Magazine
October 9th
Back in July, I was reached out by Paper Magazine out of the blue. It was an unexpected surprise. I wonder how they found about me... I should've asked. haha
The project I was assigned was called Paper People Portfolio where each talent, actor and actress, and singer gets a 1 full page print issue.
I was in charge of Finneas O'Connell and Kaitlyn Dever. Very well established and known artists.
Intro
To tell you the truth, this is my first time working with a celebrity. So this is a challenge, if I compare working with a model and a product for me. Add to this, the concept is an open concept where the photographer decides what the concept is going to be. *gulp*
So I looked at what Paper Magazine and the editor have done in the past to get a grasp of what kind of mood/ concept they are interested in. Then try to add my bit of twist.
Kaitlyn Dever
For Kaitlyn, I wanted to do a classic look with a haze filter. Most of my works are done with contrast lighting with harsher shadow but I wanted to change things a bit.
With help of great stylist Carlee Wallace, Make Up Artist Nikki DeRest, and hair stylist Bobby Eliot, I was able to pull off a great image of Kaitlyn with a classic look. I guess, for a first time photographing a celebrity, I guess I've done decent.

Finneas
For Finneas, I wanted to do something moody. Just like the one I did with Lukas where there are light reflection on a glass. His songs are very moody and romantic, I wanted to portray that in the image.
I guess I had too many idea for Finneas and did not get to do the idea due to the complexity of the lighting set up and small studio space. However, I am happy with what I got despite the lost of detail in the shadow and the cloth. I should've looked out for that for the print.

Final Thought
Overall, for a first celebrity photoshoot, I think it went well. I always have room to improve on and I will always try my best to do better next time. Hopefully, next time, I would be more relaxed and try not to make things awkward by interacting with the talent.
